Managing pages
The Content tab is where you build and organise your website’s pages — the same pages described in how your website works, shown here as a list you can click through rather than as individual groupings in Artlook.
The page list
Down the left, your pages are grouped under headings that match your site’s navigation — Home, and your Exhibitions, Artists and Galleries pages (renamed to whatever you’ve chosen in website settings), plus any standalone pages. These three heading pages have their own eye icon to hide the whole section, but since they come from your website settings rather than being pages in their own right, you can’t delete them here.
Each individual page underneath has two icons:
- The eye icon shows or hides that page on your live site.
- The trash icon deletes it permanently — there’s no confirmation step, so make sure before clicking.
Untick Hide unpublished pages if you want to see pages that aren’t currently showing on your site.
Drag and drop a page’s title to change its position in your site’s menu.
Click a page’s title to open it for editing on the right.
Creating a new page
Click New Page, top right, and fill in:
- Title for page and menu item — used as the page’s heading and, for a standalone page, its menu entry.
- Type of page — An exhibition page, A gallery page, Home page grouping, Stand alone web page with menu item, or About you. These match the grouping types in how your website works — Web_exhibition, Web_gallery, Web_home and Web_page respectively. About you is your gallery’s own about page, switched on as Biography in website settings.
- Text — the page’s main description.
- Choose an image — its main photo.
Click Save and the new page appears in the list, ready for further editing.
If an existing page’s type isn’t recognised — for example, a grouping set up in an unusual way — Web Helper shows a Change page type to dropdown on that page so you can assign it one of the standard types.
Editing a page
Opening a page shows:
- Its main image, with an Optional image title (caption) underneath, and a description field.
- Show prices? and Group by artist? checkboxes, and a Link page dropdown for picking another page — wherever this page appears in an index-style listing (Home, Exhibitions, Galleries), the link leads to that page instead of this one.
- Included artworks — the pieces shown on this page. Click Add artwork to add one, or drag and drop the thumbnails to re-sequence them.
- Carousel images — extra images shown as a carousel at the top of the page, each with its own optional title. Click Add image to add one.
- Page meta data — a meta description and keywords for this specific page, for search engines.
Click the pencil icon next to the page’s title to open it as a full grouping record in Artlook instead — useful for a field that isn’t available here, such as its Sort priority.
Fixed pages
A few pages are built into every site rather than created by you. Contact Us is one — it shows a message form, and optionally a Google map, using the Google Maps Location embed code from website settings. Fixed pages like this don’t have hide or delete icons, since they aren’t optional — though you can still rename Contact Us by clicking its title.
