How Ecommerce works

Artlook Ecommerce lets buyers pay you directly through your website, by card, using Stripe to process the payment. It’s an optional module, for a modest additional subscription — subscribe first from the System Menu (click your login name, then Add e-commerce), then see Ecommerce settings for how to turn it on and connect your Stripe account.

Marking pieces for sale

On an inventory record’s Core data tab, alongside On website?, tick Offer for sale to let buyers buy that piece directly rather than just enquire about it. Offer price variants in e-commerce module lets you offer a few price options for the same piece for the buyer to choose between at checkout — useful for things like framed versus unframed, or different sizes.

What buyers see

A piece offered for sale shows its price and an Add to basket button on its website page, alongside the usual Enquire about this item option. Adding an item reserves it — the basket shows a countdown of how long it’s held for the buyer before it’s released back for sale.

From the basket, buyers can review their total and choose Proceed to checkout, where they can log in, register an account, or use Guest checkout — entering their name, email, phone number and delivery address — before paying by card through Stripe.

After a sale

A completed Ecommerce sale is recorded as a transaction against the item in Inventory, the same as any other sale — see the Transacting tab.
